The Federation organises two very popular play festivals each year. One for full length plays held throughout the season and the week long one act play festival.
The Festival is so popular that it has been split into three sections
SECTION 'A' - FULL LENGTH PLAYS: Dramas in the form of a full length play of at least two acts under the direction of one person.
Section A - Adjudicator Joan Cooper
SECTION 'B' - OTHER PRODUCTIONS: To enter this section a society must produce at least one full length play during the current season. This section covers all productions that do not fall under section 'A' or 'C' such as musicals or pantomimes. Entries will be judged on their merits as a complete evening's entertainment.
Section B - Adjudicator Melvin Bates
SECTION 'C' - FULL LENGTH PLAYS: The rules are the same as for section 'A' but in addition, to be eligible for this section the society must have been awarded the Federation's Drama Shield during the previous ten years.
Section C - Adjudicator Ian Rayner
Application forms and a full copy of the Festival rules are on the Federation's web site and are also available from the Secretary. They are also posted out to all member societies at the beginning of the Festival year.
The application should be sent to the Secretary with a copy of the script and entry fee at least 28 days before the opening night.
Bear in mind though that certain times of the year are busier than others with productions and you need to notify the Secretary of the Federation as soon as you know your productions dates if you want to take part in the Festival.
Don't just leave it until 28 days before or you may be disappointed!

ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL
This one week event is usually held at the premises of one of the Federation's societies. It is restricted to member societies only, but in alternate years it now includes an open section for non-member societies from anywhere in the country to take part.Spoken adjudications are given each evening although written assessments can be provided if requested, for a small fee.
The awards are presented on the final night of the Festival.
Winners of both Festivals are eligible for inclusion in the NDFA All Winners Festival.
The 2008/9 One Act Festival was held between 8-13 June 2009 at Hyde Festival Theatre.
