The Federation organises two very popular play festivals each year. One for full length plays the other involves 15 or more one act plays in the space of a week - three plays a night!

The
Full Length Festival (thought to be the largest
of its kind in Europe) runs from early September to the end of May. All societies which are full members of the Federation are eligible to enter. At the end of the Festival an Awards Night Dinner is held on a Saturday in early July at the Longfiled Suite - Prestwich - during which an awards ceremony takes place. Member societies can make application to the Federation's Secretary to take part in the Full the Festival. Dependant on which section of the Festival the production has been entered for, the respective Adjudicator will come and watch the production and it is based on this that the Adjudicator makes their decisions at the awards ceremony.

Details of this years
Adjudicators can be found by following the link on the
left. The sections for this Festival are as follows:
SECTION 'A' - FULL LENGTH PLAYS: Dramas in the form of a full length play of at least two acts under the direction of one person.
SECTION 'B' - OTHER PRODUCTIONS: To enter this section a society must produce at least one full length play during the current season. This section covers all productions that do not fall under section 'A' or 'C' such as musicals or pantomimes. Entries will be judged on their merits as a complete evening's entertainment.
SECTION 'C' - FULL LENGTH PLAYS: The rules are the same as for section 'A' but in addition, to be eligible for this section the society must have been awarded the Federation's Drama Shield during the previous ten years.
Application forms and a full copy of the Festival rules are reproduced in the Federation's Year Book and are also available from the Secretary. They are also posted out to all member societies at the beginning of the Festival year.
The application should be sent to the Secretary with a copy of the script and entry fee at least 28 days before the opening night.
Bear in mind though that certain times of the year are busier than others with productions and you need to notify the Secretary of the Federation as soon as you know your productions dates if you want to take part in the Festival.
Don't just leave it until 28 days before or you may be disappointed!
For further details, contact the Secretary by emailing: SECRETARY
ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL
This is a one week event usually held at the premises of one of the Federation's societies. It is restricted to member societies only, but in alternate years it now includes an open section for non-member societies from anywhere in the country to take part.
Spoken adjudications are given each evening although written assessments can be provided if requested, for a small fee.
The awards are presented on the final night of the Festival.
Winners of both Festivals are eligible for inclusion in the NDFA All Winners Festival.
